Job summary

Join our dedicated team of Clinical Support Workers at Bedford Hospital, with opportunities available across a range of specialties. Successful applicants will be placed in a suitable department following assessment and interview. As part of a 24/7 service, you’ll work day, night, and weekend shifts.

All new starters receive a comprehensive induction and ongoing support from our Recruitment and Education Support Assistants (RESAs). You’ll be guided through completing your Care Certificate, ensuring you gain the skills needed to deliver safe, compassionate care.

After your induction and six-month probation, you’ll join our development programme to help you grow and thrive in your role.

Job responsibilities

You will work at all times under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the shift and will be accountable to the Registered Nurse that you are working with and to the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse of the ward or department.

You will work to the level of your experience, assessed competence and skilled acquired within the post.

You will require immediate and direct supervision in areas of unfamiliar work. You should not undertake any task that you are unfamiliar with.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Has undertaken the Care Certificate
  • Level 1 literacy and numeracy or equivalent

Desirable

  • L3 Health and Social Care Qualification or equivalent experience (minimum or 12 months)
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grades A*-C) or equivalent

Experience and Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in dealing with people who are sick and distressed or equivalent customer focused employment
  • Experience of team working
  • Experience of working under pressure and dealing with competing demands
  • Experience of communicating with people from different backgrounds
  • Basic digital skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a healthcare role at Band 2 or equivalent e.g. carer for family member
  • Experience of working in a range of healthcare settings

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge or understanding of the role which includes care related procedures, clinical observations, limited clinical duties and relevant legislation
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of patient care, such as washing, toileting, feeding and communication
