Job summary

An excellent development opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our diverse team as a Senior Pharmacy Technician- CPSD Team Leader.

This role will manage workload and supervise staff on a day to day basis, driving efficient working and organising cover for any unexpected staff absences to ensure a safe, effective and timely service in accordance with current legislation and guidance.

To help us achieve this, you must be able to demonstrate core leadership and organisational skills as well the ability to inspire and motivate others is central to the success of this role.

Previous experience of working in a supervisory or leadership role would be advantageous as well as an understanding of Good Distribution Practice. You will also be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Main duties of the job

The position of Senior Pharmacy Technician- CPSD Team Leader will deputise for the Principal Technician- Purchasing, Supply & Logistics and will supervise up to two of the following areas:

  • Purchasing Team
  • Stores Team
  • Accounts (Invoicing )Team
  • Distribution Team

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Supervising and directly managing the delivery of efficient and effective day-to-day operations and logistics within the pharmacy purchasing, invoicing, stores and distribution teams.
  • Developing and maintaining a working environment which encourages teamwork, mutual support and excellence in service delivery and reduces risks to a minimum.
  • Writing and updating standard operating procedures in line with governance requirements for pharmacy purchasing, invoicing, storage and distribution and assist in their implementation.
  • Assisting in ensuring the Pharmacy Stores and Distribution service and all the staff who work in those areas comply with the terms of the Wholesaler dealers license granted by the MHRA / Good Distribution Practice
  • Assisting in the delivery of training for all pharmacy staff involved in the purchasing, invoicing, storage and distribution of medicines.

In addition, you will assist the Principal Technician- Purchasing, Supply & Logistics by actively working towards maintaining key performance targets as well as for monitoring the quality of service provided.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Minimum qualification NVQ3 Pharmacy Services, BTEC Pharmaceutical Science or CGLI/Apothecaries Hall pre 1985 certificates or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Association of Pharmacy Technicians (APT(UK))

Experience

Essential

  • Hospital pharmacy experience or equivalent relevant area of practice
  • Experience of pharmacy computer systems for ordering, invoicing, stock control and manage pharmaceuticals.
  • Working in a customer-focused environment
  • Experience of line management and people management
  • Experience of undertaking audits.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to create documents and spread sheets and extract information.

Desirable

  • Working with electronic prescribing and administration systems
  • Experience of working in medicines procurement
  • Experience of working in pharmacy distribution and purchasing related area
  • Experience of stock control management
  • Experience of managing teams

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems.
  • Audit techniques
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Pharmacy stock control procedures.

Skills

Essential

  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with staff and patients.
  • Able to prioritise in response to competing demands.
  • Be methodical in approach.
  • IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel)

Desirable

  • Have experience of disciplinary matters and be able to impart results from them to staff in an appropriate and considered manner.
