Job summary

The post holder will be a motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic individual who is willing and able to join the Compton Ward at NGH and to help us to maintain our high quality of service.

The post holder will work as an effective member of the team, providing quality administrative support to the wider team.

Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

Be responsible for ensuring that case notes are available, file it as per protocol, maintain them in an orderly manner and return them appropriately after discharge letters are completed.

Notify Next of Kin of patients admissions and (emergency) transfers if required by ward staff.

Ensure that, once medical staff have completed discharge summaries and coding have taken their information, the notes are returned to medical records and other relevant details are updated on ECAMIS and Nerve Centre

Make arrangement for X-rays, MRI, CT Scan and other relevant procedures, when requested.

Take samples to Pathology and carry out other similar errands.

Collect and deal with post appropriately. Any post for the Ward can be opened and dealt with (if in doubt, ask the nurse in charge). Any post marked with a staff members name should be in the staff mail tray. Post for the Ward Manager should be put in the unit office on the desk.

Obtain relevant personal information for nursing documentation and update details on the computer.

Liaise with ward co-ordinator regarding all patients expected for admission and discharge.

Any other ad-hoc duties as required by the ward manager. Policy and Service Development Responsibilities:

Be actively involved in the induction of new staff.

Accept personal responsibility for identifying their own learning needs and for maintaining their own professional development and mandatory training.

Assist in the facilitating of a learning environment conducive to the acquisition of further knowledge and skills and be actively involved in the development of others.

Promote and provide health education for patients and their carers/family

Professional Responsibilities

To promote a professional and positive image of themselves and the Trust.

Demonstrate a caring and supportive attitude towards their work colleagues.

The postholder may be required to carry out other relevant duties as required.

The postholder will be expected to undertake training, including mandatory and role specific training, relevant to their role and ensure it is renewed as required.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Understanding the role of a Ward Clerk
  • Demonstrate knowledge of confidentiality
  • Knowledge about Microsoft operating systems

Desirable

  • Previous Health care experience
  • Working with the public

Educations, Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of formal education up to the age of 16.
  • Numeracy and Literacy Skills

  • Administration qualification

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to foster teamwork.
