Job summary
Applications are invited for the above post based within the Maternity department. The post holder will provide an efficient, friendly and above all confidential reception service to the unit, as well as efficient and effective data entry to support the various computer systems used in the department. You will also work closely with medical professionals including Doctors, Nurses, Midwives and GPs providing support where necessary.
The applicant will have excellent communication/interpersonal skills, a good telephone manner and indicate an ability and a willingness to support other team members. IT skills, previous clerical experience, and experience of data entry are essential. Knowledge of Careflow and experience of working in a hospital/care environment are desirable.

Job responsibilities
- To provide an efficient and friendly service to patients, visitors and colleagues, handling enquiries promptly.
- To ensure all patient details entered onto Careflow are correct and carried out in a timely manner.
- To assist nursing and midwifery staff in ensuring that the highest possible standard of patient care is achieved.
- To maintain confidentiality.
- To provide an efficient and friendly service to patients, visitors and colleagues either at reception or by telephone.
- To liaise with staff on the unit and hospital security staff to ensure the safety and security of mothers and babies on the unit.
- To liaise with wards regarding Admissions, Transfers and Discharges and prepare relevant documentation and enter data onto Careflow.
- To coordinate and distribute discharges to appropriate health care professionals.
- Coordinating and tracking patient notes (requesting/ locating, tracking on filefast, notes transfer/return and orphan filing) or information.
Experience
- Ability to maintain a comprehensive filing system and of maintaining/preparing accurate documentation records.
- Administrative experience, preferably within a health and social setting.
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- Experience of working in a reception
Desirable
- Previous experience of Careflow. (2)
- Previous experience within an acute hospital setting/NHS experience
Skills
Essential
- IT and keyboard skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows
- Good interpersonal skills with professionals and the public
